Biography
The Book of Life opened in Canaan, Tobago West Indies on February 14, 1927, for God's precious gift, Maida Elizabeth Melville. She was born the third child of the late Zill and Trinita Clarke. She attended Bon Accord Public School, Tobago, West Indies. She completed many chores around the house daily, before and after school. Maida knew how to multi-task at a very young age, and used this skill to support her family, by selling homemade icecream, souse, custom tailored hotel drapery and linens, custom dressmaking, and creating dresses for entire bridal party to help support her family.
Maida met and married James Melville at her young age of 17 years, and together created and raised a family of ten children. Her ability to create/design/sew began as a child when she took her dolls and their clothing apart to see how they were constructed. Honesty, and independence were two of her core values passed on to all her children, and their children. She often seeked wisdom from above to face challenges that approached her in life.
One night in 1960 when she called upon the lord for wisdom, at a church rally, he came into her life, and never left. She surrended her life to the lord, and since that day she has been a blessing to anyone who met her. She touched the lives of many through her love for mankind. The Lord closed the Book of Life, Sunday night, March 28, 2010 at the Scarborough General Hospital, freeing her on this side to rest eternally with him.
Those who will cheerish her memory are: Ten loving children (in chronological order) Stephen Melville (Carmen), Lennox Melville, Yvette Roach, Monica Croffie, Patricia Quashie, Joseph Melville, Bernadette Nicholson (Joshua), Keith Melville (Sandra), Antoinette Charles, Willma Melville (Kevin). She was the sister of Pheo Roberts (deceased), Sarah Wills, James Clarke (deceased), Merville Clarke, Cleo Duncan, Daniel "Patsy" Clarke, Lynette Clarke (deceased). Twenty-one grandchildren: Lesa and Cindy Melville; Jamel Melville; Gillian, Oneka, Deryck, and Dion Roach; Tamiko and Terrence Croffie; Giselle Melville; Jason and Ronnell Sandy; Joelle and Janelle Melville; Nicole and Jerome Nicholson; Aisha and Chesa Melville; Brent Hoyt and Akeem Charles, Terrel and Kwesi Caesar. Twenty-two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends. Her favorite hymms were How Great Thou Art, What A Friend We Have In Jesus, and When Peace Like A River. Her favorite scripture: Isiah 41:10.
